Sharing words God has taught me on this crazy journey through life, hoping they can shed light to your path!

Make me an Instrument . . .

So, I love analogies.
I love words in general, and I think analogies provide powerful ways to interpret something meaningful.

So think about this.
God fills us with His Holy Spirit and lives through us to reach the world in desperate need of Him when we surrender to Him and put our full Trust in Him.

We are His instruments.
I am a musician at heart, so I picture myself as a musical instrument of God’s (what an honor!!)
He provides the breath, my breath of life, and sings through me.
He is the ultimate Musician!
He doesn’t need me – He can surely sing glorious melodies – but He chooses to include His people in His perfect plans to restore the world to Himself.

If we simply be still and trust, let our Maker hold us and perform through us, it doesn’t matter how we perform – on our own, we would just be the dusty old clarinet sitting in the closet, but when we let God make music through our lives, we become vibrantly alive, getting to experience His hand over our lives and His Presence through us to inspire others to want to listen to Him and be like Him.

Think about it: when you hear an incredible musician, you’re not like, “Oh my goodness, that clarinet.  I want to be like that wooden tube with metal keys.”  Nah, we admire the musician!  The player of the instrument.  Our Almighty God.  We should strive to draw people to Christ by the way we let Him paint the picture of our lives and create truly glorious things through us.

Plus, we as people are all created differently – we all have different strengths, our own quirks, characteristics that make you you.  Just like a clarinet is different than a trombone, a spoon is different than a spatula, a pen is different than paint, a hammer is different than pliers … but all are instruments we use to accomplish something great, beautiful, lasting.

Remember your source… the One who loves you immensely and chooses to work in and through your life beautifully to make you a source of something incredibly beautiful, beyond what you could ever accomplish alone, and touch the hearts of the hungry world in ways beyond our understanding.  You may never know how much of an impact you have on this world if you let God sing through you.  Do your work, your gift, your role, to the best of your abilities, and let God do the rest.  He wants to bless other beloved children through you.  Just let go of your own control and trust His bigger, better hands to create a beautiful image of Himself through you!

  1. Reminds me of one of my favorite poems. "The Touch of the Master's Hand"
    'Twas battered and scarred,
    And the auctioneer thought it
    hardly worth his while
To waste his time on the old violin,
but he held it up with a smile.

"What am I bid, good people", he cried,
"Who starts the bidding for me?"
"One dollar, one dollar, Do I hear two?"
"Two dollars, who makes it three?"
"Three dollars once, three dollars twice, going for three,"

    But, No,
From the room far back a gray bearded man
Came forward and picked up the bow,
Then wiping the dust from the old violin
    And tightening up the strings,
He played a melody, pure and sweet
As sweet as the angel sings.

The music ceased and the auctioneer
With a voice that was quiet and low,
Said "What now am I bid for this old violin?"
As he held it aloft with its' bow.

"One thousand, one thousand, Do I hear two?"
"Two thousand, Who makes it three?"
"Three thousand once, three thousand twice,
    Going and gone", said he.

    The audience cheered,
    But some of them cried,
    "We just don't understand."
    "What changed its' worth?"
    Swift came the reply.
"The Touch of the Masters Hand."

And many a man with life out of tune
All battered with bourbon and gin
Is auctioned cheap to a thoughtless crowd
    Much like that old violin

A mess of pottage, a glass of wine,
A game and he travels on.
He is going once, he is going twice,
He is going and almost gone.

    But the Master comes,
And the foolish crowd never can quite understand,
The worth of a soul and the change that is wrought
By the Touch of the Masters' Hand.
